School Age Services and Supports

The Butler County Board of MRDD is very proud of the relationship it has with the 10 local school districts.

School districts are responsible for providing services to children of school age (ages 3-22).  The educational services that are provided to children with a disability are outlined in the Individual Education Plan or IEP.  The Butler County Board of MRDD Classroom Consultant works with the IEP Team to develop behavior intervention strategies based on a student’s individual needs.  School districts must request the service through a referral process, and the school districts are responsible for the cost of the service.

Classroom Consultant services are part of the Behavior Support Services division which also includes in home support to students and their family through the Family Focus Program. 

Family Focus services are also obtained through a referral process, but there is no cost for this service.  Anyone eligible for MRDD services living in a family environment can request this service.  A family environment includes parents and children, grandparents, foster families, siblings, and extended family.  There is no age limit.

The service is designed to teach individuals more positive ways to communicate and interact.  Family members also receive positive strategies and suggestions to improve relationships.  The goal is to provide support and learning that lasts after official services end.  The goal is to keep families together.

In home counseling services are also available to families who qualify.  A licensed counselor works with the family to promote healthy relationships and increased self esteem.
