Adult SupportsAdult Support Services provide a variety of educational, habilitative, and vocational opportunities to individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. At our non-vocational sites, Liberty Center and Middletown Enrichment Center, we offer an array of adult education choices and skill reinforcement including: money management, reading, basic sign language, computer classes, art classes, music therapy and cooking classes. It is our intent to offer programming to individuals that is unique, based on their individual interests, is fun and is in a relaxed environment. Through personal care services, we offer training and support that focuses on personal hygiene, mealtime, safety, mobility and communication. All of these support services are designed to enhance an individual’s ability to experience and participate in their community. In addition to the services listed above, individuals also have the opportunity to participate in paid work experiences while attending two of our centers: Hamilton Center and Middletown Center. Services are designed to teach and reinforce concepts related to work including responsibility, attendance, problem solving and safety. Opportunities are available for both hourly work and piece rate work. Through our vocational services individuals are supported in activities that aid in their social integration with disabled and non-disabled employees at the work site. Individuals are offered the opportunity to gain independence and appropriate social skills through our Community Integration department. Individuals are afforded the opportunity to experience going out to eat, attending sporting events, visiting museums and going shopping. Additionally, we have partnered with the local YMCA, affording us the opportunity to fully integrate our individuals into the programs they offer. Those include: swimming, basketball, aerobic exercising and recreational opportunities. The Butler County Board of MRDD has established volunteer sites throughout Butler County where our individuals are able to give back to the community. Some of our volunteer sites include hospitals, libraries, schools, universities, nursing homes and churches. We participate in local festivals and with various charitable organizations. Through our volunteer program, our individuals frequently develop special friendships within their community. For individuals who have experienced difficulty in a traditional vocational setting we offer Customized Program Development (CPD). Through CPD we offer career exploration; volunteer opportunities, community projects, job coaching/retention and business development, by actively supporting individuals to develop a plan for their future. For individuals who have encountered difficulty and need more intensive supports to be successful in a day habilitation program, we have initiated Customized Day Habilitation (CDH) programs. CDH programs are designed for individuals who are not being served in a traditional day habilitation setting. CDH utilizes a team approach including speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior supports and individual advocates to assist in the development of a plan, based on the individual’s preferences. The individuals served through this program have access to our center activities throughout the county, as well as community opportunities, and will be provided supports to add meaning to their day.
