The Butler County Board of MRDD provides services for young children from birth through five years of age.  Services range from Center Based Programs to Home Based Services and involves children typically developing as well as children with developmental delays.

Educational Services

Early Childhood:

Butler County MRDD Early Childhood Services are focused on the concepts of supporting families and offering services to children in the most natural environment. We believe in creating opportunities where parents can meet and learn from each other. Federal, state, and local funds support our programs.

Early Intervention Services: Ages Birth to up to Three

Services are offered for families and their infants from birth until their third birthday.

Early Intervention services are provided in a variety of ways.

Home services -- the Early Intervention Specialist meets with the family at home offering techniques related to infant stimulation.

Center time -- Individual time at one of our centers provides the child and parent an opportunity to visit with an Early Intervention Specialist, Occupational/Physical Therapist (OT/PT) or Speech Therapist to discuss the child and family needs and to learn specific activities and techniques that will encourage the child's growth and development.

Parent and Baby Play Groups are offered throughout the county at various Centers.  Check the Early Childhood Calendar for location and times of playgroup sessions.

Playgroup allows families to learn about all the steps in your child's development that will lead to growth in social motor, language and thinking skills.  Parent will meet other parents and share ideas and concerns while the children play and explore with each other.

Ohio's public schools are responsible for all special services to eligible children who are three through five years old.

The classes include activities that promote learning through exploration and interaction. Preschool programs are open to eligible children with developmental disabilities and children who are typically developing.

Preschool classes meet 2 1/2 hours a day Monday through Thursday located in public school districts around the county.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORTS FOR CHILDREN/FAMILY FOCUS

Little girl in a wheelchairMany times, parents voice concerns that they may have for their child. The staff at MRDD's Family Focus are available to listen and talk with parents regarding these concerns.   They are ready to offer creative suggestions when needed.

Some of the issues worked on to support families have included riding the bus to and from school, aggression in the classroom as well as making the transition from one early childhood program to another.

We offer skill acquisition to families. We assist family members working on safety and survival skills in the areas of Home Safety (fire and severe weather, cooking safety, use of cooking facilities), Personal Safety (emergency services, strangers), Health/Medical (poison control, first aid, prescription medications). We also assist families with toilet training issues.

We help connect families to community resources that will support their needs. We have developed a list of Parent Groups that support parents/grandparents struggling with a variety of issues such as Attention Deficit Disorder and Tourette Syndrome. We link families to appropriate recreational and leisure activities as well as promote friendships among individuals.

We also have a small, but well-stocked library with books and literature that include topics such as behavior, education, families, specific disorders/syndromes etc. These resources are available to families, teachers, and the community.
